It is believed John hid his treasure in his grave before his demise. That would explain why it is dug down so deep. Apparently therehad been a 2,000 acre plantation & this cemetery is the last remaining relic. It is said he was a general in the Civil War & he had a hatred for Cajuns. He'd forbade his family from mingling with Cajuns & homeschooled them. One of his daughters, Mary, had fallen in love with a Cajun boy & John wouldn't lety them be together.
